Resumen

El siglo XXI está siendo testigo de un cambio radical en nuestra manera de pensar acerca de la “discapacidad”. En ninguna otra parte, estos cambios son más evidentes que en el campo de la discapacidad infantil, donde los conceptos tradicionales biomédicos están siendo incorporados en –pero expandidos considerablemente por– nuevas maneras de formular ideas acerca de los niños, del desarrollo infantil, de las fuerzas socio-ecológicas en las vidas de los niños con condiciones crónicas y sus familias, y de los “puntos de partida” en los profesionales, para ser útiles.
En este artículo, hemos tratado de compactar una serie de ideas, cimentadas en la Clasificación Internacional de Funcionalidad, Discapacidad y Salud (la CIF) de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, en series de lo que hemos llamado “palabras F” en neurodiscapacidad del niño (‘F-words’ in child neurodisability en ingles)– función (function), familia (family), forma física (fitness), felicidad (fun), fraternidad (friends) y futuro (future). Esperamos que ésta sea una manera atractiva para que las personas incorporen estos conceptos en todos los aspectos de servicio clínico, investigación y defensa de los derechos relacionados con los niños con discapacidad y sus familias.
