Trauma del plexo braquial: Conceptos actuales en el diagnóstico y tratamiento quirúrgico

Resumen

Las lesiones del plexo braquial ocasionan cambios dramáticos en el entorno social y laboral. Se encuentran asociadas frecuentemente a accidentes en moto. Con el tratamiento quirúrgico, realizado por un cirujano entrenado y en el momento adecuado, se puede mejorar el pronóstico de estas lesiones. Hay técnicas que permiten reconstruir dentro del mismo plexo mediante injerto nervioso o transferencias de nervios, y otras técnicas extraplexo como transferencias nerviosas distales o neurotizaciones. Es importante tener claro el momento de la cirugía, que no sobrepase de los seis meses de la lesión para lograr buenos resultados. En pacientes jóvenes se puede hacer reconstrucciones aun hasta los 9 a 12 meses después del trauma.

Las series de pacientes muestran que con todas estas técnicas y en el tiempo adecuado se pueden lograr buenos resultados.
