Abstract

Objective: To establish reference values of quantitative sensory testing in Colombian women.

Methods: The quantitative sensory testing was performed in healthy Colombian women. Predefined stimuli were applied (vibratory, cold, heat, and pain by heat) to the lower and upper limbs, using the thresholds methods.

Results: Vibratory threshold ranges were 5.3 to 12.3 JDN in the hands, and 5.5 to 10.4 JND in the feet. Cold threshold ranges were 4.5 JND to 10.8 JND in the hands, and 4.2 to 10.3 JND in the feet. Heat threshold ranges were 6.4 JND to 12.8 JND in the hands, and 5.6 to 10.6 JND in the feet. The perception of pain 0.5 threshold induced by heat was found between 15 to 21.2 JND in the hands, and 15.5 to 21.2 JND in the feet. The perception of pain 5.0 threshold induced by heat was found between 20.5 to 24.6 JND in the hands and 21 to 24.6 JND in the feet.

Conclusion: Vibratory, cold, and heat thresholds were similar to those previously reported in other studies. As expected, thresholds of pain induced by heat differ from reference values published by other authors, as pain thresholds are different in hispanic groups.
