Objective. To characterize patients with a history of prematurity and up to one year of corrected age, according to evaluations associated with their primitive reflex activity.
Methodology. A retrospective review of the medical records of premature patients, without neurological or other serious or chronic pathologies, who attended the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation consultation, was carried out within the framework of the kangaroo mother program of the La Victoria Hospital-headquarters Instituto Materno Infantil, evaluating a set of primitive reflexes and the results were compared with the values reported in the literature in full-term children. The results were analyzed descriptively.
Results. The integration of the reflexes of suction, Galant, fencing, cross extension and withdrawal in some of the patients evaluated showed delay in relation to that reported in term patients, but in the majority it was similar.
Conclusion. This study showed similarity at the level of integration of primitive reflex activity among premature patients with corrected age and the values reported in the literature in term children, with some integration delays in various reflexes, and prospective studies with population significant samples that are necessary study these potential differences.
