Abstract

With progressive advances in cancer detection and treatment, survival has improved
dramatically in recent decades. Cancer and cardiovascular disease are the leading causes of death in high-income countries. Cardiovascular complications can be found in cancer patients, because of so-called ‘cardiototoxicity’. A number of cancer treatments have been associated with varying degrees of cardiovascular injury that can show cardiovascular consequences for years after completion of cancer treatment. The development of cardiac dysfunction related to cancer treatment has a high risk of morbidity and mortality. Early detection of risk factors seems essential to prevent long-term cardiovascular disease. In this review, the risk factors of cardiototoxicity-generating systemic therapy and radiotherapy were analyzed.
