Abstract

This study presents the findings of the investigation «boccias as an element of social inclusion», held in Colombia with the participation of the Vallecaucana league of cerebral paralysis (LIVAPACE) in the city of Santiago de Cali in 2011. We tried to show how through the practice of sports boccias, elements for social inclusion were generated. The overall objective was to understand the social factors that practice of boccias provides to the athletes with disabilities that contribute to social inclusion. This paper assumed disability from the concept of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and develop concepts of sport, sport for people with disabilities, boccias sport and social inclusion. In this study we assumed the qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach, where through the significant units the process of analysis of information collected is carried out. Actors of the research process are described and is performed the detailed interpretation of each of the semantic units, resulting in the corroboration of the thesis studied and showing the different forms of social inclusion that are generated through sports boccias. Boccias is generator of identity, image, autonomy, independence, builder of society, of the opportunity to be visible and socially recognized.
