Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the usefulness of tissue regeneration technology available and the use of autologous stem cells in the treatment of injuries resulting from degenerative osteoarthritis in the hyaline cartilage of large joints.

Methods: in the external consultation of Physiatrist at the Clínica Meta (Villavicencio, Colombia), we chose 10 patients with clinical diagnosis, x-ray classify the commitment of osteoarthritis in joints (knees). Stratified functional compromise to the visual analogue pain scale, and measurement of joint mobility. In addition to functional testing and a functional independence measure (WOMAC).

All patients received conventional therapy consisting of analgesics, joint-saving techniques and articulate low-impact aerobic exercise, but five of them were added in parallel, a local tissue activation protocol by articular injection technique, developed by Tissue Regeneration Institute in Colombia, called Cytogel®, every 15 days for two months (4 doses) and monitoring to six months. After the cases were reevaluated by
the same clinical tests and x-ray images.

The results suggest interesting and promising changes in terms of control of the underlying disease and clinical and functional improvement in patients with the protocol addressed.
