Abstract

Introduction. There is great heterogeneity in the studies that deal with the effectiveness and indication of Shock Waves Therapy (OCH) in plantar fasciitis (FP) with respect to other alternative treatments. A systematic review of recently published studies was carried out to further clarify the benefits of this technique in FP.

Objective. To evaluate shock waves (OCH) as an effective treatment to relieve pain in plantar fasciitis (FP) compared to other treatments.

Material and method. A bibliographic search was performed in the PubMed and PEDro databases, using as keywords “Plantar fasciitis AND shock wave” and “shock wave”. It has been selected articles from 2015 and 2019, both inclusive, which were published in Spanish and English language.

Results. After aplying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and removing the similarities between them, it has been selected 13 cases which imply a complete sample of 1220 individues and in which has been compared OCH versus placebo, versus OCH with exercises, versus ultrasoundtherapy, corticosteroid and botulinum toxin infiltration, and low-level laser therapy.
