Abstract

The International Standards for the Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injuries (ISNCSCI) arise from the need to establish a common language in the initial evaluation and follow-up of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). The 2019 version incorporates new concepts about non-spinal cord injury-related impairments and zone of partial preservation in incomplete spinal cord injuries. This classification allows the physical examination to be standardized, which increases reproducibility between different examiners and long-term follow-up. In addition, it makes it easier to establish treatment and prognosis.
