Abstract

Introduction: cerebrovascular event (CVE) is a common pathology in our medium causing multiple squeals social, work and family conditions, significantly impacts our health system due the treatment requested.

Objective: to measure objectively the functional impact generated by CVE across scales NIHSS and Barthel, determining the degree of functional dependence in patients who suffered, determining factors to forecasts and risk in that population.

Materials and methods: descriptive evaluated 50 patients whit CVE in central military hospital Bogotá, in order to identify and forecast risk factors using scales reflect the real impact during initial phase (NIHSS within 72 hours. Barthel to 8 days).

Results: 38% of patients had greater initial severity as NISHH scale, showing severe functional dependence or total Barthel functional scale apply a week later, 8% had functional independence with Barthel scale , 16 % died during hospitalization for direct or indirect causes, the functional limitations most often was to make transfers chair. Bed and walking (26%) the 20% had altered the bladder and dowel control.

Conclusion: the initial measurement of a cerebrovascular event identifies aspects of greater affection, set goals ad facilitates individual rehabilitation and follow the natural evolution of the disease, a week after the 92% of stroke patients have some functional dependence for both goals should be clear and individualized for greater long term gain of rehabilitation.
