Abstract

Introduction: The six 6 minutes walking test (SMWT) in a submaximal exercise test, designed to measure the responsiveness to exercise, widely applied in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs.

Objective: To obtain normal reference values of test driving in six minutes to healthy children and adolescents Colombians from 7-17 years old.

Materials and Methods: A Descriptive, no-experimental observational, cross-sectional study, 214 children and adolescents were evaluated 7 to 17 years of age healthy Bogota. They were determined as outcome measures in two tests of walking test in 6 minutes applied in each participating with 30 minutes apart, measuring distance traveled in meters, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, height, index body mass, waist-hip ratio and Borg scale.

Results: The distance (Media DS) for the first test corresponded to 615.9 ± 74.2 m in the second of 633.3 ± 75.4 m, with a difference of 17.4 m (P <0.05 ) between the two tests. 79.4% of participants gained a greater distance in meters in the second test. The intraclass correlation coefficient between the two tests was 0.931 indicating excellent test reproduciblidad. The variables age in years (r = 0.603 P <0.0001) weight (r = 0.575; P <0.0001), size (r = 0.616 P <0.0001), body mass index (r = 0.345; P <0.0001) and difference frequency of heart before and after the second test (r = 0.286; P<0.0001) were significantly correlated with better distance in meters an inverse correlation between body weight and distance traveled was evident. No differences in distance between the genders was found. Through method of multiple linear regression (Method intro) reference equation for the walk test in 6 minutes to Colombian children and adolescents: 6MWT = 79,032 + [3,743 X age (years)] + [3,651 X heigth
(cm)] + [4,877 X BMI (kg/m2)] + [0,104 X Dif HR2 (bpm)] – [2,777 X weigth (kg)] R2 = 45.1%; Standard error of estimate = 54,71 m.

Conclusion: Reference equation and values was generated in population 7-17 years old, so its implementation is suggested in Colombian rehabilitation institutions where this develops tolerance test exercise.
