Abstract

Introduction: Osteoarthritis of the knee is a chronic disease characterized by pain due to a degenerative process suffered by the joints and which affects a large number of patients. The-re are several treatment that improve the symptoms and quality of life of the people affected.

Objetive: To evaluate the effectiveness of a kinesiological treatment program in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Methodology: A prospective, randomized simple longitudinal study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of a physical exercise program associated with conventional treatment in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The sample consisted of 84 patients in each group, referred to the Rehabilitation Service of Cerro Polyclinic, during the period between March 2017- December 2018 and they fulfilled the inclusion approaches. The study group received conventional treatment and a kinesiology program in the Service of Rehabilitation and continued in the home, while the control group only received conventional treatment.

Results: There was a prevalence of the feminine sex with a 68 year-old half age. The control group had an evolution towards improvement in 19,1% of the patients, while the study group did it in 85,7% with an evolution between good and excellent.

Conclusions: The results achieved by the study group demonstrate the effectiveness of this individualized program of physical rehabilitation. Most of the rehabilitated patients achieved improvement, more evident in the study group. This demonstrated the benefits of the treatment program employed.
