Introduction. The study of F waves evaluates the normal and abnormal physiology of the central and peripheral nervous system. Their reference values currently used are obtained according to the age and height of European and American populations and there is no study that systematically analyzes the normal values in the Colombian population.
Objective. To analyze the parameters of F waves in healthy adults attending the IPS Rangel in Bogotá to create a database of reference values that allows determining and creating a guide of normal parameters of F waves in a healthy adult Colombian population.
Methods. Observational study developed between January 2019 and December 2020 and conducted on 53 men and women between 18 and 60 years of age attending the IPS Rangel. The values of the F waves of the median, ulnar, peroneal and tibial nerves were recorded bilaterally, according to parameters of minimum latency, maximum latency, chronodispersion and persistence. The collected data were recorded in a database for analysis.
Results. Minimum mean latencies of 22- 6ms were found in the upperlimbs and of 36-46ms in the lowerlimbs. No significant differences were found according to the laterality and the age group. In the analysis of results by gender, significant differences were found between the minimum and maximum latencies. The height was divided into 3 categories, finding significant differences between the minimum and maximum distal latencies.
Conclusions. The present study determined the clinically useful reference values for the parameters of the Fwaves in healthy people from Bogota between 18 and 60 years of age for the main motor nerves, which allows us to increase the quality of detection of proximal peripheral neuropathy.
